[WIP] Branwen: The raven rises

Thorium19

post-38950-0-72640800-1420813225_thumb.j

So, the personal build is go, go, go!

This will be my personal rig for the foreseeable future, so I intend to make it as good as I can.

The parts list is as follows at the current moment, with subject to change is:
Intel core i7 4790k [bought]
MSI MPower Max AC Z87 [bought]
OcUk reference GTX 770 [bought]
16GB Kingston hyperX fury RAM [bought]
Crucial MX100 256GB [bought]
WD 1TB drive [bought]
XFX XTR 650W [bought]
Silverstone Raven 5 [bought]

Alpenfohn Brocken [bought]

This will be an ongoing project for now, as I cannot buy all the parts at once, so expect infrequent and ill timed updates.

To kick things off, the case is the first thing to arrive in all it's winged glory... I give you, the silverstone RV05!

Don't forget to follow this if you want to be first for updates.

I also apologise about the awful picture quality, I'm using a cheap point and shoot, and I've had to downscale the quality of the photos so they will upload.

I approve of this. Just tell @MetallicAcid that your RV05 looks better than his.

Yeah, this is why I hate Silverstone's naming scheme. Too many numbers.

I would love to do a show build with this case... I am in love with it.. Although it is not best suited for water cooling though. By the time I take on another large project, they might release an RV06 or FT06 instead :D

To the OP, I cannot wait to see what you do with your case!

Eventually I might whack a 2*180mm radiator in the bottom, when I get a better GPU. Those AP181s are begging to have a radiator put on them.

The case has AP182s though, the white ones. Shame they don't make them in black as well to match the rest of their cases.

A dual 180 should be enough for an SLI setup though, and give headroom to OC all components.

It's got the black ones in, so I think they're 181s if I remember correctly. The FT05 will have the 182s.

If i do go watercooling at some point, it's gonna be yellow. Bright and colourful to compliment the motherboard.

I had to work on talking mine around for about 18 months, and even then, I've got a budget of around £800. A good amount, but I just keep thinking "what if I had an extra £50 to £100 or so"

I agree that it is confusing. It took a while for me to learn the differences!

/J.

Not confusing.

Rv01-first raven, vertical

Ft01- looks like a standard case, kind boating

Rv02- vertical, ap181

Ft02- metal version of rv02 , ap182

Rv03- similar to rv01 and rv02

Ft03- vertical matx (and itx) case, all aluminum

Rv04- horisontal airflow, 2 ap181

Ft04- metal rvo4, ap182

Rv05- this case

Ft05- rv05, metal, ap182

Ravens plastic outside, fortress metal.

This was all of the top of me head other than rv01 and rv03

The only real duff ones are the rv03 and 4, firstly the 3 due to the looks of it. Why add champagne colouring to it and move the psu to the front? Seemed rather strange design wise I thought. The issue with the 4 was the door being flimsy and the CPU not getting enough air due to the drive cages. Otherwise, every other one is great.

Yeah. The ftO4 is decent, sturdy door, and if you remove cage for airflow (spots for 2 HD and 2ssd, or 4 ssd
