I was watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail at 3 in the morning. I have played civ 2 countless times and I know the sound files anywhere. When I heard the beginning of the "Black Knight fight scene" I immediately recognized it as the fighting sound in civ 2. I googled it and found numerous comments confirming my suspicion. I just thought it was cool and I'm proud to have deciphered it. Listen to it for yourself, it's pretty trippy.

In the Playstation 2 game Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, the character Ratchet converses with an alien by tapping the controller symbol keys in the order indicated on the screen. If you fail to tap the keys correctly you will insult the alien. One of these insults is, "I emit a noxious effluvium in your general direction." This is, of course, an almost direct reference to the Frenchman's insults toward King Arthur and his knights.

Crazy stuff, I'm posting here because it's 2 a.m. and I just discovered the same thing! And yes, there are another "contributions" of Monty Python in games...
In Worms Forts Under Siege, if you choose the medieval audio for your worms and one of them gets hurt, it says "It's just a flesh wound."
And in Stronghold, when you send your pikemen to attack, they say "none shall pass".

That could be very true. I guess it was mostly just amusing to me to recognize the Civ II sound effects as I was watching Monty Python in the wee hours of the morning :P

Mabye not, but he could buy a stock audio pack for "swordfight sounds" from a studio. I've heard the same sound you're commenting about on various shows on the History Channel too.
