Tech Tips is returning to its roots a little bit. This is a small hint of things to come. We are going to try to do more investigation and explanation of the technology rather than focusing on products so much. You see with the 5870 episode we focused more on the new technologies rather than the product itself. I think that allowing more “product oriented” videos to go out via the video blog, we can touch on a lot of the deeper issues on NCIX Tech Tips.
Next scheduled episode is on “why you should use a UPS with your gaming PC”
Hey Linus really like your blog and tips, I have a question about the Powerline product. Do you have to be on the same circuit/breaker in the house for it to work? You said in your comparison at the end that you can stick more adaptors around your house to use the net so my guess is no but can you confirm this?
does the router determine the quality of the connection you have? I have a LinksysWRT110 and have been experiencing intermittent connection issues. I live in an apt, have two laptops, set up a network drive, SMB share and use the wii for some online games and netflix. Will the powerline adapters really be the best way to go? What kind of router should I use?

With many modern powerline adapters it’s not necessary to be on the same circuit.
I tested this kit all over our warehouse with a laptop on many different circuits and it performed flawlessly
that was the best setup i have seen
