Archive for September, 2009eVGA P55 SLI LGA1156 Core i5 Motherboard UnboxingPosted by: Linus on 13th September 2009Been working hard on a new water cooled demo system for the store that will be opening later this year in Aberdeen Center. Hopefully I’ll be able to share some pics of that before I’m done, but it’s a “more for glitz than function” sort of build which is always fun and it features the Corsair Obsidian 800D. This thing is so easy to water cool it’s not even funny! Oh yeah and I have a new video. ASUS P7P55D LE P55 LGA1156 Core i5 Motherboard UnboxingPosted by: Linus on 12th September 2009I think I’ve actually settled on a spot to do unboxing videos. If I can be outside in the sun, I’ll do them by the little globe thing, and if I can’t be outside (and it’s not sunny) then I’ll do them in that weird multipurpose room that no one is ever in (like the PicQuic screwdriver one). Here’s my first look at an ASUS P55 board! Sanyo Eneloop AA Batteries & Charger UnboxingPosted by: Linus on 10th September 2009Well we needed some of these for use with the Tech Tips microphone as well as the Cameraman’s wireless mouse at work, so we borrowed some from the warehouse much hilarious (okay none) ensues. We also shot a couple more P55 unboxing videos today! They’ll be up soon! eVGA P55 FTW LGA1156 Core i5 Motherboard UnboxingPosted by: Linus on 9th September 2009I’ve realized now that this is going to be a lot of P55 unboxings. It’s okay. I’m game. I may actually still shoot one tonight in my PJs. We’ll see what happens. I tried to unbox the Raven 2 today, but it was a disaster. I couldn’t get the case open! I finally figured it out like 2 minutes later off camera, but I’ll have to fake it a little bit in my real unboxing video because I’ve actually opened it once already now (just like this one). Gigabyte P55-UD3R P55 LGA1156 Core i5 Motherboard UnboxingPosted by: Linus on 8th September 2009I had totally thought I was done with the Gigabyte P55 unboxing videos, but I wasn’t! I forgot this board was even coming out until I saw it in the warehouse on Friday before the long weekend. I took it with me to Seattle intending to actually shoot the episode while I was there, but it didn’t happen until I got home Sorry guys! Intel LGA1156 One Minute or LessPosted by: Linus on 8th September 2009I think I’m going to make this into a recurring theme for my Linus Tech Tips videos. It’s a bit of a challenge for me, and I think one of the biggest problems with videos and video reviews is how long they are, so I will work towards explaining things or doing things in one minute or less. Here’s the first one on the Intel Core i5 and P55 platform. Intel Core i5 Overclocking Tutorial (NCIX Tech Tips #48)Posted by: Linus on 4th September 2009I have to confess that doing a follow up to one of my most watched episodes ever was a bit of a daunting task. I’ve slaved away at this guide since I’ve had my hands on the appropriate hardware, and I think that it’s worlds better than the first one. We give some real settings that people can dial in and use as a starting point for their own overclocking efforts, and I think we’ve done a better job of keeping things accessible for people who are just starting out. I really hope you enjoy the Core i5 P55 overclocking guide! Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB Dual Processor SATA Hard Drive UnboxingPosted by: Linus on 4th September 2009Yes. I actually unboxed a hard drive. Sure there’s not a lot of intrigue there, but we had to take it apart anyway for Cameraman’s new RAID10 external hard drive box for his video editing. Pretty soon I’ll be back to more P55 unboxing, so stay tuned. We’ve got eVGA, ASUS, and the Gigabyte board that I forgot to do before coming up! Samsung Lapfit USB MonitorPosted by: Linus on 4th September 2009When Samsung approached me about talking about the Lapfit on Tech Tips I basically said “not on your life” and dismissed it as a stupid useless product. It wasn’t until actually about 1/4 of the way through the shooting session that I figured it out. It’s not about “number of connectivity options per dollar” or “screen real estate per dollar”. It’s a lifestyle item. Much like Beats by Dr. Dre, you can get more for the money or a similar solution for less money, but it won’t be as elegant, and that’s what it comes down to for the Lapfit. I hope you enjoy the video! Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Core i5/i7 CPU Heatpipe Cooler UnboxingPosted by: Linus on 2nd September 2009I’m anticipating this will be one of the “must have” Core i5/i7 or LGA1156 (whatever you want to call it) upgrades. This new “special edition 2″ version of the popular NH-U12P includes 2 fans, much like the regular “SE” model, but it includes another important features: LGA775/1156/1366 compatibility. The mounting system is quite clever as you’ll see in the video, and I suspect that Noctua has a winner on their hands. |
